Get Ready To Ski In The Pyrenees

Skiing in the Pyrenees, South West France

Despite the current mildness of winter, people lucky enough to own a house in France are beginning to look forward to the skiing season. I recently spoke to Jonathan who works with our partner agency in Haute-Garonne to find out more about his experience of skiing from his French property. It is an amazing added bonus to life in this part of France that you can enjoy wonderful warm and sunny summers, beautiful autumns and then the luxury of winter skiing. And another bonus for many is that this is not an area that attracts too many tourist skiers, no long queues for ski lifts and mostly only the company of locals and owners of French property in Haute-Garonne on these ski slopes.

A Nature Lover’s Paradise

The close presence of the Pyrénées throughout the year is a joy and is what makes many people choose the Haute-Garonne as the department of France in which they want to search for a French property. Even for those who prefer to cuddle up in an armchair by a log fire in winter there are amazingly beautiful mountain walks in the Pyrénées to enjoy throughout the year and more gentle waterside walks too. For lovers of nature Haute-Garonne is worth discovering and the good news is that you can still buy a lovely home in Haute Garonne for less than €150,000.

A word from Jonathan, our local man in Haute Garonne………

“I generally ski once a week in the season, and my house is in the middle of Aurignac. It takes me just over 1 hour from home to the ski resort so I leave at 8 a.m. which is reasonable and I get back around 7 p.m., if I ski all day and have a drink before setting off, so yes it is very do-able from here. A big bonus for my children is that their Wednesday afternoon sports are spent skiing!”

Three of the best ski resorts in Haute-Garonne

Payregudas at 1,600-2,400m offers 60km of slopes

Luchon-Superbagnères at 1,465-2,125m offers 32km of slopes

Le Mourtis at 1,420-1,860m offers 25km of slopes
