Languedoc-Roussillon is that privileged part of France which spans the Mediterranean from the Pyrénées of Spain through to the far banks of the Rhône river where Provence stretches to the Italian border. Since 2016 it has become part of the larger region of France named Occitanie.
The area offers a very diverse landscape with the Pyrénées mountains to the west and the marshlands of Camargue to the east with long stretches of sandy beaches in between.
